Product information
With the „PROFESSIONAL STONE” series, Naniwa offers a top product in sharpening stone technology. The Professional Stones are significantly harder than the stones from the Sharpening Stone series by the same manufacturer. Naniwa targets professionals with the highest demands among users with this product. Especially for those who don’t have much time and want to achieve a quick and clean sharpening result in between, these stones are ideal.
Professional Stone sharpening stones, with their hardness, are quite close to Shaptons. They are significantly more firmly bonded than the Sharpening Stones and wear out only very slowly. Especially in the coarser range – grit 3000 and below – they are significantly superior in terms of sharpening speed. When grinding out nicks, the 400 Professional Stone coarse grit is even faster than the 220 Sharpening Stone and is not far behind the Shapton 120. It is usually sufficient to moisten the surface of the stone with water.
Since sharpening stones must be regularly flattened because only a flat surface allows precise sharpening results, you should also take a look at our flattening blocks for sharpening stones.
Important storage and soaking instructions: NANIWA Professional Stones sharpening stones are magnesium-bonded and thus have a greater mass of pure abrasive grains than other resin-bonded stones. Magnesium-bonded stones react significantly more sensitively to constant water exposure than other stones. Therefore, these sharpening stones must be stored dry after use! If this is not observed, the sharpening stone can develop hairline cracks or the bonding can dissolve! A brief immersion in water is sufficient; soaking is not necessary at all! Often, it is enough to sprinkle a few drops of water or quickly hold the stone under running water. If you are unsure whether you can manage this, it is better to opt for the more error-tolerant Sharpening Stone / Super Stone series.
Note on a name change at Naniwa: The Professional Stone Chosera series was renamed to the Chosera Pro series. The characteristics of the stones remain unchanged.
