This is the standard grit for sharpening stones and indispensable with this grain size.
For those who find the other Naniwa sharpening stones too soft, this is a good alternative. The Standard Stone (formerly known as Traditional) is somewhat harder and therefore does not hollow out as quickly as the other Naniwa sharpening stones. This stone is an all-rounder and suitable for almost all tool steels. Before use, soak the stone in water for a few minutes, 10 to 15 minutes is sufficient. Re-wetting may be necessary, especially since the 220 stone is quite thirsty. Storage should be dry, as we recommend for all other sharpening stones.
