The slotted nuts have a length of 5/16 inch (8 mm). This thread length always ensures a good hold, no matter how tightly the nut is fastened. The screw head and nut are beveled, meaning the diameter decreases slightly towards the threaded side so they can always be tightened or loosened without causing wood to chip at the edges. Instead of a square shaft above the threads, a lock washer prevents the screw from turning when tightening or loosening the nut. The nut is slightly thicker than the screw head to compensate for the thickness of the lock washer, which lies beneath the screw head, allowing both countersinks to be made with one depth setting of the drill. The screw head and nut are recessed so that they are flush with the surface of the handle. The screw is 1.024 inches (26 mm) long and suitable for handle thickness up to 13/16 inch (20.6 mm). The nut slot is 0.032 inches (0.8 mm) wide and 1.5 mm deep. If you do not have or do not wish to make your own key, we recommend our slotted nut driver. Installation note: Each screw set comes with two lock washers, one should be placed under the screw head, and the other serves as a spare part or compensates for an accidentally too deep countersink. If you examine the lock washers closely, you will see that one side of the teeth is sharper than the other. This sharp side of the lock washer should face the metal to ensure higher strength. A screw set includes one screw, one slotted nut, and two lock washers.
