Conical drills are used to ensure an exact fit for screws, as pilot drills for nails to minimize the risk of splitting, or for enlarging tool handles to immediately have the correctly shaped hole for the often conical tool tangs.
These drills for conical holes have a hex shank with a diameter of 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) and therefore fit into any three-jaw chuck of a drill as well as any standard bit holder.
