Product information
This saw file holder not only provides you with a second handle for your saw file but also helps you control the angle of the file to the saw while sharpening. It utilizes the natural ability of the eye to judge whether two lines are parallel.
The saw file holder features a rotating collar ring, which allows you to set the rake angle from plus to minus 30° (based on the Anglo-Saxon definition, measured against a line perpendicular to the tooth line; according to the German definition, the rake angles are 60° - 120°) and a 76 mm (3 Inch) wide protractor to set the fleam angle (the angle between the tooth face and the side of the saw) between 45° left and 45° right. All you need to ensure while sharpening is that the protractor is parallel to the saw blade and horizontal. This is easy to do by eye. Since this file holder does not restrict the movements of the file, you learn to guide it cleanly by hand—a skill you need for freehand sharpening.
The protractor has a scale in 5° increments, and the collar ring has a vernier scale, allowing for adjustments in 1° increments. A rubber O-ring inside the collar ring provides slight resistance, making precise settings easily achievable.
The saw file holder is 67 mm (2-5/8 Inch) long. The body is made of anodized aluminum, the protractor of stainless steel, and the knurled screws for adjusting the angles are made of brass.
