Silicon carbide sharpening rods are indispensable in many areas such as tool manufacturing, deburring, sharpening carving tools, and for cutting tools with special shapes for which a normal grindstone is not suitable. Note on the designations coarse - medium - fine: These serve only as an addition to distinguish the stones colloquially among themselves, but not to compare them with other stones where completely different standards may apply. A fine 280 grit sharpening rod is not a fine Japanese water stone! If you compare the grit designation as a number, i.e., 100 - 180 - 280, then both types are comparable because the European standard (FEPA F) and the Japanese standard (JIS) show little difference in the grit sizes in this range. Use these stones with oil or water, depending on the requirements of the workpiece. Note: Once used with oil, they cannot be used with water. If necessary, these sharpening sticks can also be used dry. Avoid applying pressure from the side, as the thin sticks can break!
