The Tormek Blackstone Silicon has been developed to shape and sharpen very hard and high-alloy steel qualities. It can also sharpen carbide if the tool already has the correct shape. The SB-250 does not grind ordinary carbon steel faster than the Tormek Original Grindstone. The combination of the hardness of the abrasive grains, shape, and size allows the stone to work effectively at the low speed of the Tormek machine. The higher grinding ability of the grindstone is particularly well-suited for grinding tools with large grinding surfaces and where the grinding pressure is low, such as planer blades and turning chisels.
The grit size, which is 220, is the same as the Tormek Original Grindstone and can be changed with the Stone Grader SP-650 to give the stone a surface equivalent to 1000 grit. Thanks to the sharp and relatively small abrasive grains, the Blackstone Silicon grinds effectively even at low grinding pressure. The Blackstone Silicon also has a very long service life.
