Product information
For truing wooden plane soles. The handle area is coated with soft plastic. Unlike conventional scrapers, this blade is not used to draw a burr, as the material is too hard. It is used more like a loose plane blade for scraping.
- If the plane body is warped or the sole has become hollow, the sole can be trued with sandpaper. To do this, you can glue sandpaper with white glue onto a not-too-thin glass plate.
- Take the L-shaped blade and initially remove material in a crosswise motion (chu shiage). Leave a 3 mm wide strip in front of the mouth of the plane and about a 6 mm wide strip at both ends of the plane body. During the fine processing (shiage), this strip is then reduced to zero at the front, to about 1.5 mm in front of the plane mouth, and to about 3 mm at the rear end.
- Except for the area in front of the plane mouth and the two ends, the sole should be worked down to about the thickness of paper. The removal varies slightly depending on the cutting angle.
- For fine processing, repeatedly check with a precision straightedge to ensure you are removing material evenly.
- If you also use a special one for adjusting the plane, even more efficient processing is possible.
