To prevent misalignment of the front vise when clamping workpieces on one side.
The mounting plate is inserted into a correspondingly crafted recess in the wooden jaw and secured with two screws. A hole needs to be drilled into any existing apron or the workbench top for the spindle.
With a bit of creativity, a Mini-Moxon vise can easily be made using two set screws.
