Product information
The most common stone, even for the scythe that needs peening.
Since there have been scythes, there have also been scythe sharpening stones. In the past, stones carved in the shape of a fish from various types of sandstone were used. After silicon carbide in crystal form was invented as the hardest abrasive in America in 1892, it was first used in Europe in Freital near Dresden for the production of sharpening stones. From the raw material designation silicon carbide, the trademark SILICAR was created. Since the tips of the sharpening stone are particularly stressed when sharpening the scythe, the SILICAR is hardened there.
