Product information
Since the invention of scythes, there have also been scythe sharpening stones. In the past, stones carved into fish shapes from various types of sandstone were used. After silicon carbide in crystal form was invented in America in 1892 as the hardest abrasive, it was first used in Europe in Freital near Dresden for the production of sharpening stones. The trademark SILICAR was derived from the raw material designation silicon carbide. Since the tips of the sharpening stones are particularly stressed when sharpening the scythe, the SILICAR is hardened at those points.
