Product information
Patrick Edwards is one of the world’s leading experts in marquetry and furniture restoration, which is why the hide glue he developed and manufactured meets extremely high standards. This liquid hide glue is excellent for the restoration of antiques, veneering, and laminating, for instrument and chair making, and also for modern woodworking. A huge advantage of Old Brown Glue is that it is essentially transparent to finishes, provided that it is wiped off properly. The glue dries by losing moisture and has a very long open time under normal conditions. It begins to set in about an hour and is fully cured after 24-48 hours. Old Brown Glue has excellent strength in tight joints and remains flexible after curing. It is not affected by freezing and can be frozen or brought up to operating temperature repeatedly without negative effects. Its viscosity can be varied by temperature from 100°F (38°C) to 149°F (65°C). Lower temperatures are perfect for gluing leather or fabric to wood, while higher temperatures are best suited for penetrating fine cracks or ensuring a longer open time.
It has a guaranteed shelf life of 18 months, regardless of storage conditions. Please note the best-before date printed on the bottles. OBG is very easy to clean with cold water. The hide glue is easily reversible with hot water and heat, making repairs or repositioning simple and convenient.
It is non-toxic and contains organic ingredients.
Made from strong hide protein adhesive and urea in the USA.
