Those who find the other Naniwa sharpening stones too soft will find a good alternative here. The Standard Stone (previously known as Traditional) is a bit harder and therefore doesn’t hollow out as quickly as the other Naniwa sharpening stones. This stone is an all-rounder and suitable for almost all tool steels. Soak the stone in water for a few minutes before use; 10 to 15 minutes is sufficient. Re-wetting may be necessary as the 220-grit stone, in particular, is quite thirsty. Storage should be dry, as we recommend for all other sharpening stones.
