A good drill for multiple materials at once? And it should also drill tear-free and quickly? Hard to believe, but STAR-M makes it possible. This drill is suitable for European soft and hardwoods, various types of plastics such as acrylic, ABS, PVC, as well as hard rubber and bamboo. The manufacturer STAR-M refers to it as a bamboo drill, and indeed it truly excels with this material.
This drill is a successful blend of a twist drill and an auger bit. The pre-cutters create a clean hole edge, while the two curved main cutters quickly gain depth even with little pressure. Straight cutters go straight into the wood, whereas curved ones – like on this drill – engage more softly, as they don’t grab frontally across the entire cutting width. This results in a smoother surface. The pre-cutters also function as a chip thickness limiter, ensuring that the chips are not too thick, are consistent, and thus making the hole cleaner. Positioning the drill on curved surfaces, such as PVC pipes or bamboo poles, works very well. Thanks to the sharp centering point, the drill position does not shift.
All these drills have a 6.35 mm hex shank, which fits in any drill machine and allows for quick changes in any screwdriver. The surface is chemically (electroless) nickel-plated to protect the drills from rust.
