Milling curves such as round arches and sweeps is always a challenge and involves a lot of preparation. It becomes particularly difficult when a compass is no longer sufficient for precise marking, and one has to rely on a set of more or less suitable curve rulers. Different radii are skillfully combined, drawn, roughly cut out with a jigsaw, and then, with all sorts of aids – ideally with an edge sander – the desired template is created. The preparation effort is enormous and therefore hardly worthwhile for individual pieces.
The Fisch Kurvenlinfix from Austria offers a significant simplification. It is made of a highly elastic plastic that is tough, flexible, and absolutely unbreakable at the same time. With this curve ruler, you can quickly, precisely, and neatly create individual models. It is suitable for round, segment, or basket arches, as well as sweeps and light cutouts. It is simply fastened with screws onto the roughly cut-out template and then guided along the router’s bearing ring. It doesn’t matter whether you are working with a table router, a handheld router guided in a router table, or freehand.
If the screw holes on one side of the workpiece are not bothersome and it is a one-off production, the Kurvenlinfix is directly attached to the workpiece. Otherwise, you need the intermediate step of template creation, which has the advantage of frequent repeatability.
The smaller the cross-section of the ruler, the smaller the radius that can be chosen. The larger the cross-section of the ruler, the more even the curve in long and simultaneously flat arches.
