Product information
The higher the tension of the saw blade, the more precise the cuts. Knew Concepts has previously manufactured particularly lightweight fret saws that, despite their featherweight, allow for decent tension. The larger the saw frame, the more difficult it is to achieve high blade tension. Therefore, the fret saws previously manufactured by Knew Concepts have blade tension depending on the size of the saw frame. Thus, the traditional saws with a 3-inch frame have a blade tension of about 12 kg, those with a 5-inch frame have a tension of up to 8 kg, and those with an 8-inch frame up to 4 kg.
The saws of the new MK IV line allow for more than twice the blade tension of the traditional line, namely 25 kg for the 8-inch frame and higher for the two smaller frames. Exact measurement of these is unnecessary, as a higher tension than 25 kg would lead to blade breakage. However, this comes at the cost of a thicker frame, greater length, and higher weight. The new aluminum frame is 4.8 mm thick, the old one 3.2 mm. The new 3-inch saw weighs 195 g, the old one 130 g (5-inch new 240 g, old 145 g; 8-inch new 300 g, old 175 g). The new overall length is 37 cm for all sizes, the old one 34 cm. Generally, the new saws are thus stronger and vibrate less.
Another advantage of the new Mk IV line is the ability to rotate the blade 360° with locking points at every 45° position. The greater length and higher weight are technically necessary due to the 360° rotatability.
However, these specifications do not apply to the saws with titanium frames, which consistently allow for a blade tension of over 35 kg. The titanium saws are extremely lightweight, yet also priced significantly higher than the standard saws.
