Makoto Aida is a well-known hammer smith in Japan. Under his brand SHINZAN, which translates to ‚Deep Mountain’, he produces meticulously crafted forging hammers. The surface is largely left as-forged and features a rough hammer mark pattern. These hammers are relatively small, designed for fine work. Therefore, these hammers are available with heads starting at 75 g in weight. The matching short handles make them particularly handy. Selective hardening on the striking surfaces ensures that part of the rebound energy is absorbed by the slightly softer core of the steel. This creates a feeling of increased effectiveness when striking, as less rebound energy is transmitted to the wrist.
You can also use this stylish hammer for various tasks beyond forging. Due to its short handle and small head size, it is excellent for adjusting plane irons in woodworking planes and many other tasks in the workshop.
Comes with a handle made from white oak.
