Professional execution, hand-forged! This shear is not laminated, yet its blades possess the hardness of laminated tools. By using YCS3 steel, hardening to 63 HRC is possible. This steel also allows for thinner forging than traditionally manufactured shears, making it only 285 g light! Unmatched for boxwood and other topiary work! Once you’ve worked with these shears, you won’t want to use any others!
The blade of this shear is not laminated (hard steel and soft iron forge-welded) but is made entirely of Hitachi YCS3 steel. Traditional shears often have the disadvantage that the less hard iron body can bend under stress, and the two hard blades, because they no longer align cleanly, do not cut well despite their sharpness and hardness.
If one were to make a shear entirely from „Hagane” - the hard cutting steel – it would be extremely prone to breakage due to its high brittleness. The modern YCS3 steel has some alloying additives that allow for a high hardness of HRC 63 to be achieved while avoiding brittleness.
Nevertheless, this finely ground shear is not suitable for cutting wire or other foreign objects. This usually results in chipping of both blades and is not a reason for complaint.
Furthermore, this combination of properties allows this shear to be ground thinner. Therefore, it is lighter at only 285 g than other shears of the same type. The light weight and ergonomically shaped handles allow for fatigue-free working.
