Professional quality, hand-forged! This shear is not laminated, yet its blades possess the hardness of laminated tools. By using YCS3 steel, it’s possible to achieve a hardness of 63 HRC. Very thinly forged, it weighs only 155 g! Specifically designed for cutting flowers and harvesting fruits like apples or grapes. Suitable for woody stems up to 5 mm, as long as not cutting in the area of the tips! With the tips, you should only cut flowers and thin stems of fruits!
The blade of this shear is not laminated (hard steel and soft iron forge welded), but is made entirely from Hitachi YCS3 steel. Traditional shears often have the disadvantage that the not-so-hard iron body can bend under stress, and the two hard blades, because they no longer align perfectly, do not cut well despite their sharpness and hardness.
If one were to make a shear entirely from „Hagane” - the hard cutting steel – it would be extremely prone to breaking due to its high brittleness. Modern YCS3 steel has some alloy additives that allow for achieving a high hardness of HRC 63 while avoiding brittleness.
Moreover, this combination of properties offers the possibility to grind these shears thinner. Therefore, it is only 128 g, lighter than other shears of the same type. Together with the very ergonomic handle, this allows for fatigue-free work.
Also perfectly suitable as a harvesting shear, e.g., for grapevines or apples!
