Product information
Professional execution, hand-forged! This shear is not laminated, yet its blades possess the hardness of laminated tools. By using YCS3 steel, a hardness of 63 HRC is possible. This steel also allows for thinner forging compared to traditionally manufactured shears, making it only 138 g light! The shears are extremely strong and suitable for hard and thicker woods.
The blade of this shear is not laminated (hard steel and soft iron forge-welded), but made entirely from Hitachi YCS3 steel. Traditional shears often have the disadvantage that the not very hard iron body can bend under stress, causing the two hard blades, because they are no longer guided cleanly together, to not cut well despite sharpness and hardness.
If one were to make a shear entirely from "Hagane" - that is, the hard cutting steel – it would be extremely prone to breaking due to its high brittleness. The modern YCS3 steel has some alloy additives that allow for achieving a high hardness of HRC 63 while avoiding brittleness.
Moreover, this combination of properties offers the ability to grind these shears thinner. Therefore, at only 138 g, it is lighter than other shears of the same type. The light weight allows for fatigue-free work. This shear is particularly suitable for hard and gnarled branches due to its strong blades.
HIDEHISA hand-forged shears are manufactured in Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, Japan by a long-established company.
