Product information
The sharpening stone manufacturer SIGMA Power Corporation from Tokyo targets users of high-alloy steels like HSS with its top-of-the-line Select II series. With these stones, too, there is an evident effort to create a grinding feel similar to that of natural stones. Unlike resin, magnesium, or cement-bonded stones, the Select II stones do not contain binding agents. Instead, these stones use the vitrification process to bind the grains. By increasing the viscosity during the cooling of the grinding stone mass, crystallization is prevented, resulting in amorphous material similar to the production of glass. This process is expensive, but the Sigma Select II are true steel eaters.
Not only is steel quickly abraded, but also the stone itself – resulting in quite a bit of slurry during grinding – the price for speed! Therefore, it needs to be dressed more frequently, but this process is very quick with this stone.
The achievable sharpness is significantly higher than with the previous grit.
