The construction depends on whether the Shoji elements are to be visible from one side (e.g., in cabinets) or from both sides (room divider). In the latter case, a second frame is attached to the first one.
Shoji paper is a tough, white, translucent paper made from wood fibers. Some types achieve particularly high tear resistance by incorporating synthetic fibers.
