This plane combines the precise depth adjustment of a router plane with a long, narrow sole, allowing it to be safely guided along door edges and other narrow workpieces. When you create the edges of a mortise with a chisel, you can use this plane to produce an exact and cleanly finished hole without needing a template or other device – often faster and more effectively than with a router. The large cutout in the plane body allows you to always see exactly where you are taking a shaving.
The cutting depth can be easily and precisely adjusted using an adjustment screw. An adjustable depth stop helps to exactly return to the end depth. The blade is clamped in a yoke, which also contains a spring. This spring holds the blade and ensures that it does not wobble, even when the clamping screw is loosened. It can be controlled to a maximum depth of 25 mm. If the clamp is fully released, the blade can be quickly removed.
The 243 mm long and 46 mm wide flat-ground plane sole is made of ductile cast iron. The large wooden handles are positioned so you can guide the plane comfortably and safely. The rear handle is angled to simplify pushing the plane. The included 19 mm wide carbon steel blade is suitable for quick work. You can replace it with any blade that fits the Veritas router plane.
A sharpening device for the two-part blade is included.
