Tightly twisted flute and wide grooves for better chip removal make these drills suitable for drilling in long-chipping workpieces.
Aluminum is soft and poses certain challenges when drilling if you use just any steel drill bit. A special drill bit for aluminum features a geometry tailored to this material and prevents out-of-round holes and tearing. The workpiece must always be clamped when drilling. A drill stand is recommended – wherever possible. Work with little pressure and „vent” frequently by withdrawing the drill bit to relieve the drill hole. For larger drill holes, due to the chisel edge present on these drills, pre-drilling with a smaller diameter and marking the drilling position with a center punch is advisable. Oil, alcohol, or kerosene are suitable for cooling.
