The biggest weaknesses of nearly all bench grinders are the largely useless tool rests. It’s almost impossible to find one where the rests are stable and square.
The tool rest for Veritas bench grinders can be used for bench grinders with 150 mm (6 inch) and 200 mm (8 inch) wheel diameters, as well as for many belt sanders. The tool rest is simply attached directly in front of the grinder on the table. If you want to grind freehand, you can easily fold the rest to the side.
The 102 mm (4 inch) wide table accommodates grinding wheels with a thickness of up to 25.4 mm (1 inch). It features a slot for guiding sliding clamps and a hole in the center for attaching pivoting fixtures. The slotted arms allow the height and tilt of the table to be adjusted over a wide range. The arms are fixed using two clamping levers. These have a ratchet mechanism that allows them to be twisted so they don’t get in the way. The tool rest can be easily removed from the table and just as easily mounted on another grinder.
The tool rest is carefully made from anodized aluminum. It perfectly matches the Veritas tool holder (see item below).
A bevel-setting gauge is included in the delivery, which helps you set the table to the common bevel angles of 20°, 25°, 30°, and 35°.
