Product information
Genno is what the hammer is called by the Japanese. Due to its unique characteristics, a separate page has been dedicated to its origin rather than its function. Selective hardening on the striking surfaces results in part of the rebound energy being absorbed by the slightly softer core of the steel. This creates a feeling of greater effectiveness when striking, as less rebound energy is transferred to the wrist. The square and octagonal hammers have a flat striking surface on one side of the hammerhead and a slightly convex one on the other. Depending on the need, either side can be used. The flat side is used, for example, for striking chisels or for driving tasks very close to the inner edges of workpieces. The cheeks of the hammerhead glide over the workpiece surface, with the striking surface positioned precisely at a right angle. This significantly increases the chance of being able to drive a small nail straight in an awkward spot. When driving nails with the nail head countersunk, using the convex side prevents damage to the surrounding wood surface. Traditionally, iron hammers are also used in Japan for striking chisels – the 375 g hammer is the right one for this. Of course, you’ll need to aim a bit better than with a wooden mallet.
