Naniwa sharpening stone dressing block
A sharpening stone flattening block is used to make hollow-ground sharpening stones flat again. A flat sharpening stone is important for a good sharpening result, especially for straight blades such as plane irons and chisels. By using circular or back-and-forth movements on the wetted flattening block (see sketch), the stone is quickly made flat again.
The working speed can be increased by adding some silicon carbide powder, see sketch. The sharpening stone must then be thoroughly cleaned with water to avoid carrying over dissolved coarser grinding particles.
