Product information
The new Veritas dovetail saw combines traditional features of a fine saw for wood joints with modern manufacturing technology and contemporary materials.
The saw blade is 230 mm long and 0.5 mm thick, with a tooth spacing of 1.8 mm. The set is 0.07 mm per side, with a cutting depth of approximately 37–38 mm.
A highlight is the newly developed spine: a plastic injection molding that contains stainless steel powder, giving the saw its pleasant weight.
The saw is well balanced and works easily and precisely. The ergonomic pistol grip gives the feeling that the saw is a natural extension of the arm. The total length with the handle is 362 mm. The saw blade is made of resharpenable carbon steel, but it is not stainless – occasional oiling is recommended.
The handle is attached to the spine with just a single screw.
The rake angle of the teeth is 14°, and the included angle between the tooth back and the rake face is the usual 60°.
When delivered, the teeth have a fine burr from the manufacturing process. This disappears over time during the „breaking in” of the saw. This process can be accelerated by placing the saw on an edge so that the spine and handle hang free and the blade lies flat. Then, a fine sharpening stone (at least grit 1200) is drawn across the blade one or two times without much pressure.
Great caution is advised: the saw is only slightly set, and each stroke reduces the kerf width.
