The term „three-quarter inch water pipe” is simply a name that has stuck. In reality, these pipes have an outer diameter of approximately 26.5 to 27 mm. Thus, the thread is significantly larger than 3/4 inch. „BSPT” stands for „British Standard Pipe Taper” and refers to a tapered (conical) external thread. The abbreviation „R” is also commonly used for this. It is tapered so that when screwed into a matching cylindrical Whitworth internal pipe thread, it seals on its own. You will hardly need it for connecting water pipes anymore. We offer it in case you find yourself in a situation where you need to cut an external thread onto an existing water pipe for our pipe clamps.
