Chu-usu nomi - long bevel edged chisel with hoop
6 mm FUJIKAWA

Product information

These chisels, known as Chu-Usu Nomi, originate from the FUJIKAWA forge in Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture. The very well-crafted chisels are forge-welded and stand up to any comparison. The cutting steel is made of White Paper Steel (Shirogami No.2), and the handle is crafted from red oak. The ferrule is applied in such a way that the handle protrudes about 1 mm over the edge of the ferrule. When striking with a hammer, you thus hit the wood and not the metal, which is important because chisels in Japan are traditionally struck with a steel hammer and not with a wooden mallet. Over time, a mushroom head forms over the ferrule, as is desired with Japanese chisels.

These chisels are positioned between the very common Oire Nomi and the carpentry chisels. The shape of the blade is adapted to the chisels, only longer. In terms of overall length and handles (especially for the larger widths), they correspond more to the Atsu Nomi.
