These irons, made from high-quality, fine-grained carbon steel, can be sharpened much more easily—and they become sharper too! You will be impressed when you use this iron for the first time! The plane iron offered here is 17% thicker than usual and fits most iron planes available today. Take the time for some preparations, and your iron plane will be significantly better.
Smooth the sole of the plane, adjust the frog (the movable plane iron support) so that the plane mouth is no larger than absolutely necessary. Then sharpen the plane iron until it is razor-sharp. Refer to Ron Hock’s sharpening guide for this! Your plane will produce transparent, fine shavings and a silky, glossy, smooth surface!
