For the production of this saw, the renowned saw smiths Yoshiwaka and Ikeda, who work in Miki, have joined forces. Under the flowery and confident brand name „Gokui,” which means „Achieved the highest state of the art!”, a saw has been developed that also features clearing teeth on the rip cut side. Rip saws are generally rather coarse. With these clearing teeth (Ikeda-Me), for which Ikeda holds a patent, even the rip cut becomes significantly finer.
This saw is hand-forged and consistently hardened. The saw blade is – as is often the case with traditional high-quality saws – narrower in the middle to reduce friction on the wood. This result is achieved with scrapers that remove fine metal shavings in the middle area. Thus, the saw blade is about 0.5 mm thick in the area of the teeth, but only 0.35 mm in the middle. The shaft is forged slightly thicker at 1 mm to provide more stability to the saw blade in the area of transition to the handle. Very high durability!
On the rip cut side, every 5th and 6th tooth is a clearing tooth (ripping tooth) for fast and clean sawing.
Although Japanese crosscut saws are inherently equipped with clearing teeth, the geometry has been adjusted here for higher effectiveness. The crosscut side of this saw not only allows for pure crosscuts but also diagonal cuts. Even fine rip cuts are possible!
