With these kits, you can build your own bench plane, smoothing plane, or even a small jointer plane with a Norris mechanism for easy adjustment of the iron. You can customize the size and shape of the plane to fit your needs. This way, you’ll get a practical tool that will bring you joy for many years.
Each kit contains an iron and an adjustment mechanism in the Norris style, allowing you to easily adjust both the thickness of the shaving and the lateral alignment of the iron, as well as a suitable housing for the adjustment mechanism made of steel. Also included are a knurled nut with a matching threaded insert, and a brass pin to hold the cap. You have the choice between a 50.8 mm (2 inch) wide and 3.2 mm (1/8 inch) thick iron, or one that is 57 mm (2-1/4 inch) wide and 4.8 mm (3/16 inch) thick. Both irons are available in A2, O1, or PM-V11 steel. All irons have a bevel with a 25° angle. The kit does not include wood, so you can select the best wood for your purposes. (The minimum sizes for the blanks can be found in the table below.) A great project for both beginner and advanced woodworkers.
