Saws blades from Sistemi Klein
Exclusively made for us in Japan.
A small note on the side: We actually wanted to introduce these stones in the summer of 2013. However, the first production unfortunately lies at the bottom of the Indian Ocean at a depth of about 4000 m, along with a nice contingent of Japanese natural stones, as the container ship sank. Fortunately, the crew was rescued. Even though this entire shipment is now permanently stored underwater, this should not be a model for you: please store stones dry and soak them in water for a few minutes before use.
Note for first use: The stones should be dressed like all other Japanese water stones before the first use, i.e., the surface must be made flat. The cheapest and easiest method: rub two stones against each other, they can also be of different grits. Diamond stones and dressing blocks are more effective. In addition, there is a wealth of articles on this topic available online.
Quiet saw blades
At Dieter Schmid - Fine Tools, we have been offering the shank cutters from Sistemi Klein, manufactured in Italy, for several years. We are convinced of their quality and price-performance ratio. Recently, we have added the circular saw blades from the same manufacturer to our range. Our colleague Anthony has tested some of these circular saw blades. Here you can find his opinion:
Recently, I tested the following three 250 mm saw blades from Sistemi Klein:
- 250 x 3.2 Z60 with alternate tooth geometry (ATB) - for clean cross cuts in hardwood and wood-based materials. A heavy saw blade with 60 teeth. (Order No. 364122)
- 250 x 3.2 Z24 with alternate tooth geometry (ATB) - for fast cutting of wood and wood-based materials. A heavy saw blade with 24 teeth. (Order No. 364162)
- 250 x 3.2 Z20 with flat tooth (FT) - for rip cuts in wood and large cutting depths. (Order No. 364158)
I started with the Z60. For the test, I used 15 mm thick multiplex, which I use to create splinter-free inserts for the table saw. Previously, I often had dark burn marks on the edges when cutting this material. This problem did not occur with the saw blade from Sistemi Klein. The cut edges were so clean that I did not need to use a planer to smooth them. The rise of the saw blade into the multiplex (to create the cut in the insert) also went completely smoothly.
Next, I tested the Z24. For testing, I used 36 mm thick American cherry. I made several cuts in both longitudinal and transverse directions. The cuts are of course not as fine as with the Z60, but I was able to saw without burning at a very high feed rate. These cuts were no problem for the saw blade. Finally, I tried the Z20 blade for rip cuts. For this test, I used very heavy and resinous larch (about 40 mm thick, 1 m long, about 15 kg per piece). This was a real challenge, both for the saw blade and for my small table saw. Therefore, I expected difficulties. In fact, the motor of the table saw struggled quite a bit with the load. Nevertheless, the blade cut smoothly, cleanly, and without burning. A very impressive result for a saw blade with such a small diameter.
Overall, the saw blades from Sistemi Klein make a very good impression. They are stable and well-built and feature laser-cut expansion slots. Sistemi Klein manufactures saw blades with a wide variety of tooth shapes and tooth counts - the right one for every application. The three that I tried worked very well, especially the Z20. They are truly recommendable and, like the shank cutters, offer a very good price-performance ratio.
