Finally, we can bridge the gap with natural Japanese water stones between grit 1000 and 6000 for those who find the aforementioned jump too large. For some applications, this stone, with an estimated grit of around 3000 (range grit 2000 – 4000), can serve quite well as a final honing stone.
Due to its characteristics, this stone can also take over the role of a Nagura, as it forms slurry and is capable of freeing the surface of other stones or rubbing out larger and harder particles that may be present in natural stones, which could otherwise lead to unnecessary scratches on an otherwise fine edge.
A homogeneous stone that, due to its hardness, is relatively resistant to forming hollows. Suitable for all common steels. The underside and the side surfaces are protected with a black lacquer to prevent water from penetrating as much as possible. Do not store in water; this could damage the stone! However, this is not a problem, as the stone does not need to be soaked for a long time; simply wetting the surface is sufficient, and you can add a bit of water as needed. Store dry and frost-free!
