A standout feature of this proven construction is the pivotally mounted jaws, which can be fixed in the desired position using a 21 mm wrench (not included!) or adjusted for smoothness as needed. This allows for easy clamping of workpieces with non-parallel or tapered edges. This is particularly interesting for carvers or specifically for instrument making, where the softly padded jaws enable surface-friendly clamping. A second point worth noting is that not only are the jaws swivelable, but the entire vise can rotate, allowing for a variety of working positions.
The vise is secured using a threaded rod that is inserted through a bench dog hole or an additionally drilled hole, and a wing screw. Depending on the preferred working position, the „base” can be left on top of the workbench or mounted underneath, further expanding its range of applications.
The vise mainly consists of cast iron and 9 mm thick side steel guides. The trapezoidal spindle is generously measured at 17 mm in diameter.
Initially, when the hand crank is operated, the play in the guide might be disconcerting, but this disappears the moment contact is made with the workpiece: there’s no more wobbling! The robust function far outweighs the rustic finish of the cast parts and the paint application.
Even when there are no special clamping tasks to tackle, this vise scores points with significantly low, older workbenches or when even currently available variants do not allow for a comfortable, fatigue-free, and pain-free working posture.
We offer this vise in an eye-pleasing color tone, similar to British Racing Green, which pleasantly deviates from the usual shock colors that unnecessarily draw attention away from the workpiece or can even be an eyesore.
