Shinsui Nakaya began his apprenticeship as a sawsmith at the age of 15. After over a decade of training, he founded his own saw manufacturing company at the age of 26 and now – at the age of 76 (in 2014) - looks back on 62 years of experience in saw manufacturing. He lives and works in Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture.
Traditionally, in Japan, when a workshop is founded, the name of the master is incorporated into the company name in some form, and he continues to exert influence in subsequent years. Shinsui Nakaya decided that 10 years of training was enough and has used only his name as the company name since its founding over 50 years ago.
He developed his own oil-based quenching method, applied after forging, which significantly reduces the risk of bending and the formation of cracks.
