This is the new simplified version of the Sharpening Aid No. 3 (without the spring-loaded retractable pin for angled Lie-Nielsen blades) and with a larger opening to accommodate thick mortise chisels – including the very thick English ones. The opening has been enlarged from 11 mm to 21 mm.
Tip: A piece of paper between the blade and the brass plate reliably prevents any unintentional slipping of the blade. A maximum of two homemade wedges are enough to clamp blades of any thickness.
A large roller distance always guarantees even and secure movement during sharpening. If you have the sharpening guide for angled blades, which only has an 11 mm opening, you can upgrade it with a set consisting of larger screws and spacers.
