These self-adhesive fine polishing and lapping sheets are made from a polyester film with a uniform diamond coating. The film is waterproof, tough, and has a thickness of 125 µm (1/8 mm). The backing is coated with slurry-applied diamond grains, allowing for a precise finish on very hard surfaces. In addition to tools, many materials such as metals, plastics, rubber, and wood can be effectively sanded. The application with oil or water is possible, as well as with all commercially available cooling lubricants. However, dry application leads to high wear. Therefore, we recommend wet application, which also enables finer surfaces.
This Diamond Lapping Film is excellent for sharpening and honing hardened hand tools with a hardness of over 60 HRC. The sheets can be cut with scissors and adhered to any suitable smooth surface such as plexiglass, glass, stone, or wood.
With 30μ grit, a quick basic grind can be achieved on chisels, plane irons, and knives—whether made of carbon steel or alloy steel—that can be refined with 9μ grit. Using the Diamond Lapping Film, sharpening results are achieved at least twice as fast as with water stones or aluminum oxide sanding sheets of comparable grit size. The grit sizes 80μ and 60μ are excellent for flattening water stones.
