Japanese water stones: Naniwa Super Stones / Sharpening Stones
The Japanese water stone manufacturer Naniwa, based in Osaka, has a reputation for producing the best honing stones.
In terms of hardness, Naniwa sharpening and honing stones fall between the Cerax and Naniwa Professional Stones (closer to the Cerax), and you'll enjoy the very pleasant feel when using them. You can almost sense the blade getting sharper as you work.
Naniwa Sharpening Stones in the finer grits are the best for honing. No other stone achieves such a fine edge.
Water stones become concave with use and require periodic flattening. Our flattening stones will do this job. A flat stone is indispensable for effective sharpening, especially of flat chisel and plane blades.
Note: Naniwa have renamed their Super Stone series to Sharpening Stone series. And now renamed again to Super Stone. In any case: the properties remain the same.
Note: All grit grade specifications refer to the Japanese JIS norm.
