Overview Japanese Saws
Overview Japanese Saws

Depth adjustable Japanese Saw

Depth adjustable Japanese Saws made by Master Yoshiwaka

Many woodworking projects and joints require one to cut to an exact depth, often repeatedly. Cut a little too deep, and one can be forced to discard an expensive piece of wood and hours of work. These saws would be the gold standard for cutting dovetails, or rabbets, for instance. With these saws, one can adjust and fix the blade backs to achieve the perfect depth of cut every time. These are professional-quality saws, with very sharp and precisely-ground teeth!

Depth adjustable Dozuki

Adjustable Depth Dozuki Saw

Blade length 225 mm
Blade thickness 0.3 mm
Kerf 0.4 mm
Max. cutting depth approx. 48 mm

The kerf is wider than the blade is thick, because the teeth are set. This helps to prevent the blade from becoming wedged in the cut. The measuring scale on the blade is printed. For a very precise depth of cut we recommend to use a separate measure to set the blade back. This saw is manufactured by the saw smith Yoshiwaka, in Miki, Hyogo Province, Japan.

Adjustable Depth Ryoba Saw

Adjustable Depth Ryoba Saw

Blade length 225 mm
Blade thickness 0.3 mm
Kerf 0.4 mm
Max. cutting depth approx. 48 mm

The kerf is wider than the blade is thick, because the teeth are set. This helps to prevent the blade from becoming wedged in the cut. The measuring scale on the blade is printed. For a very precise depth of cut we recommend to use a separate measure to set the blade back. This saw is manufactured by the saw smith Yoshiwaka, in Miki, Hyogo Province, Japan.

The blade on this Ryoba is much thinner than is normally possible, because the depth-adjustment bar acts as a back to reinforce the blade. Normally, a Ryoba of this size would have a blade thickness of from 0.4 to 0.5 mm and a kerf width of between 0.6 and 0.7 mm. So compared to a standard Ryoba, this saw makes a much finer cut. But because of the depth bar, one cannot make cuts deeper than 48 mm.
