Jaw Brace with wooden handles
The wooden grips on this jaw brace add a bit of warmth and good looks to this quality tool. The wooden parts are not oiled or finished in any way. We, like many other woodworkers, think this is the best way to treat grips like this, as the wood is free to absorb sweat from one's hands, making the tool many times more comfortable to use. If it is important that the wood not become soiled in use, then one can finish the wood using oil or varnish, for example.
This jaw brace has a four-jaw chuck, which means that the bit is clamped by a really reliable mechanism with four jaws. There is an integral ratchet to make drilling easier in confined spaces. An ideal brace for square-ended bits (as found on our spiral bit page), which are gripped immovably. Because the brace is designed to take bits with a square-ended shaft that fits into a square ( 8 x 8 mm) socket at the base of the chuck, bits with round shafts are held in place only by pressure from the four jaws in the chuck. Round bits will tend to slip when torque is applied using the brace, and so are not recommended. Made in Taiwan.

For picture frames, furniture making, and in any other application where small mitred parts must be clamped for gluing, these clamps will prove very useful. One can easily and accurately apply high clamping pressure with one hand, while the other is free to hold the pieces in the correct position. The clamps are made of spring steel with points ground into each end.
