Dovetail Saddle Markers

Dovetail Saddle Markers

These Veritas dovetail saddle markers are precision machined at 1:6 and 1:8 angles, the traditional angles for softwood and hardwood dovetails respectively. The long legs ensure accurate registration. Also, much like the Veritas saddle square they are based on, they allow a continuous line to be transferred around the corner, so the straight and angled lines can be scribed at the same time, ensuring perfect alignment. The inside corner is relieved to ensure flush seating even on saw whiskers. Made from anodized aluminum, these markers are light and durable, and will never mark your work.

Length long leg 2-1/4 in. (57 mm)
Width at edge 1-29/32 in. (49 mm)

bevel setter Bevel Setter made by Veritas

A sliding bevel is an excellent tool for transferring angles but not for reading them. This bevel setter lets you set specific angles (from 0 ° to 60 ° in 1/2 ° increments) on a sliding bevel or a workpiece as well as read angles already set. Both functions are useful for dovetailing, for machine set-up, for polygon work, or for accurately fitting a piece in a restricted location. Common dovetail and polygon angles are highlighted on the reverse side.

The etched stainless-steel blade is 3 in. wide and 7 in. long. It is both easier to use and more accurate than a protractor in the same applications.

Dovetail saw guide made by Veritas Dovetail saw guide made by VERITAS

This dovetail guide was developed to allow amateur woodworkers to achieve professional results. This system also allows the seasoned expert to produce dovetail joints more quickly and with less effort. The guide comes with a sliding clamp that is designed to fit either side of the guide to allow cutting of both pins and tails. The guide has embedded rare-earth magnets to ensure that the saw remains in contact with the guide faces, and the magnets are covered with plastic pads to allow the saw to slide smoothly.

Notice: Typical Japanese dovetail cutting saws with back are not suitable for this guide. Any back on the blade will interfere with this guide. Use a backless japanese saw - Ryoba or Kataba - or an English type Dovetail saw or Tenon saw, which do not interfere with the guide due to their wide blade. The guide itself overtops the workpiece with 40 mm. If your backed saw allows a cutting depth of 60 mm, the max. width of the boards can be 20 mm. Please consider this when choosing a saw. Beyond that the max. width of a board can be 25 mm/1 inch. Enlargement

The teeth of the saw should be set no more than 0.1 mm/0.005 inch, as the plastic pad prouds only 0.1/mm/0.005 of the guide face. In other words, if your blade is 1 mm thick, the kerv your saw makes should not be more than 1.2 mm.

The best saw for this dovetail guide is our Japanese Kataba saw ripcut fine. The guide comes with a 14 pages instruction leaflet.

Right Angle Saw Guide Right Angle Saw Guide made by VERITAS

This is the 90° version of the Veritas dovetail saw guide. It was developed for making finger joints, cutting tenons, or on-the-spot trimming of small items. It is also ideal for beginners or children learning to make perfectly square perpendicular cuts on board ends.

Manufactured using the same precision-machined aluminum extrusion as the dovetail saw guides, each reference surface is embedded with a 19 mm (3/4 in.) rare-earth magnet and covered with a low-friction plastic pad. The magnets keep the saw aligned as you cut; the pads allow the saw to slide easily against the reference surface. The clamp can accommodate material from 6 mm to 25 mm (1/4 in. to 1 in.) thick.

The guide comes with a 8 pages instruction leaflet.

Notice: Use on profiled stock is possible only, if the board has at laest 2 right angles, one for the fence of the guide and one to have it properly placed on the working table.

Saw not included! Comes with positioning and sliding fence, protractor, and hex key.

Precision Miter Saw Guide - basic model
Precision Miter Saw Guide (basic model)
With this basic model of the Miter Cut Guide listed above, one can precisely cut 90 degree, and 45 degree angles for miter joints. It is designed to be used with Japanese Kataba saws with blade thicknesses between 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm. It adapts equally well for right- and left-handed people, as one simply mounts the guide assembly on the appropriate end of the base plate.

A disadvantage compared to the stepless model mentioned above is that one must take the guide apart to set the cut, but this only takes a minute or two.
An advantage over the stepless version is that this one is so simple to use, especially when one has a number of identical cuts to make.

This miter guide is delivered without a saw, but includes an allen wrench for assembly and two guide fences, one for normal work and a second for longer cuts.
