Spirit level unit This tiny level (only 63 mm long) is a perfectly useful spirit level despite its small size when it is placed on a carpenter's square or a steel rule. The screws do not exert any direct pressure on the rule. Steel balls are set in the level so that a) the surface of the ruler is not damaged and b) the unit does not shift when it is fixed on the temporary base. Thickness of square or ruler up to 2 mm. Aluminum spirit level from Japan. This level features meticulous workmanship, soft ends and a one concave edge which allows it to be used on pipes and other round surfaces, and an etched scale. There are three marks to the right and left, respectively, of the bubble; when the bubble is centered between the two inner marks, the level is precisely at the horizontal. If the bubble touches either of the center marks, a slope of .12 in. per foot (1 cm per 1m) is indicated. If it touches an outer mark, the slope is .22 in. per foot (1.8 cm per meter). With the cross test vial, it is possible to simoultaneously level in both directions. This prevents inaccuracies in the main vial reading caused by canting the level sidewise on round work.
