Our gardening tools are very special.
Burgon & Ball in Sheffield produces trimming shears in best carbon steel. If the shape of these shears seems familiar to you, it may be because you have seen classic sheep-shearing tools. You can use these for that task, too, if the occasion arises!
We are very pleased to say we have added a new manufacturer to our garden tools section. Berger is based in Wuppertal, Germany, and uses only high quality German-made steels finished to the highest standards to provide exceptionally solid and durable garden shears that cut like a hot knife through butter. One can hear the precision with which they are made: when the shears are opened and closed, the sound of the edges against each other is constant from the bases of the blades to the tips. At no place is there a gap big enough to fit even a hair through. The ergonomically formed grips help keep fatigue at bay. They are a real pleasure to use.
A grafting knife from Kamphaus in Solingen is manufactured from the best materials and finished by hand in Germany's traditional center for knifemaking.
Please do not omitt to visit our Japanese gardening tools and pruning saws.

Garden Shears for Grass "Rasant"
With these edging shears from Berger all parts are made of metal. The blades are chrome plated, to protect them from rust. Because both blades move, the shears cut briskly and comfortably. The friction of the blades moving against each other actually sharpens them as you work. The finely-adjusted mechanism feels very solid, with very little play, but is also extremely low-friction.
Total length 325 mm (12-3/4 in.)
Length of cut 110 mm (4-3/8 in.)

Lopping Shears "Dynamic"

The hook is chrome plated as protection against corrosion, and forged-in grooves prevent the branch from slipping away during cutting. The screw connection features self-locking nuts to prevent the joint from working loose during the big jobs. An oil groove allows you to lubricate the working parts without disassembly. The handles are made of aluminum for high strength and light weight, and the grips are of a soft but durable plastic. There is a built in shock absorber to prevent joint-jarring jolts when cutting.
One really couldn't ask for a better pair of shears.

Grafting knife
Grafting is the technique of inserting the branch of one variety of plant into a notch cut into the stem of another, closely related variety. The process, mostly used to combine the good characteristics of the two varieties -- disease-resistant roots with branches bearing tasty fruit, for example -- requires a fine and exact cut.
With this grafting knife from Kamphaus in Solingen, the blade is made of first-class, electrically cast alloy steel. The blades are brought to the optimal hardness, ground and sharpened by hand. All this attention by master craftsmen results in a knife perfectly matched to its task. Even hardwoods cut easily.
In contrast to the garden knife above, the grafting knife is ground only on one side, and the other is left completely flat. This allows one to make the absolutely straight cuts demanded when grafting.
The haft, made of thick brass plates covered in Bubinga wood, is joined to the blade with robust brass rivets. And also like the garden knife above, the grip is shaped and sanded by hand by the craftsmen at Kamphaus into a knife that fits beautifully in the hand.
For a long-lasting edge and ease of sharpening, the blade is not stainless.
Blade length 10.5 cm (4 in.)
