The metal smooth planes all have mouth adjustment. The blade can be finely adjusted by means of the knurled-head screw, and the lateral adjustment is done with a lever.

JUUMA Smoothing Plane no. 4
The plane's body is made of stress-relieved gray cast iron. The frog is made of brass. The 3 mm thick high carbon steel blade is hardened to 61 - 63 HRC and connected with a thick and stable chipbreaker. The handles are made of Bubinga. With the introduction of this plane we trust to have closed the large gap between the cheap planes and the premium planes. This plane is the missing link regarding quality and price.

KUNZ PLUS Smoothing Plane No. 4
It is here at last -- the long-awaited new plane from KUNZ!
The plane's body is made of stress-relieved gray cast iron. The sole is finished to a high standard and the cheeks are at a precise 90° to the sole. The relatively short iron, unlike the older Kunz #4, lies firmly on the cleanly machined top of the frog. The 3.5 mm thick iron is of optimized tool steel, hardened to 60 - 62 on the Rockwell Scale. A feature that will be appreciated by many is that cutting depth and blade angle is controlled with just one screw. The differentially cut threads on the screw provide a very fine and controlled adjustment of the cutting depth. One moves the frog in order to set the width of the mouth, but you are no longer required to detach the frog in order to do this; The frog can be loosened with the help of an Allen wrench provided with the plane. The frog itself is set in a carefully-machined groove, and so side-to-side adjustments are no longer necessary. The new plane's knob and grip are made of locally-harvested cherry wood with good ergonomics, and the tool lies easily in your hand. More ...
