VERITAS Dowel and Tenon Cutter
These cutters made by Veritas can be used two ways. Using them like a hand-held pencil sharpener, you can put accurate tenons on the tips of turnings or on rustic furniture components. The cutters can also be used with a power feed to make accurate dowelling.
Using a hand drill for power, you need only cut square stock slightly oversize (1/16 in. over is ample) and use a square socket to power the stock through the dowel cutter. The carbon-steel blade in the plated zinc-alloy body is adjustable.
Works equally well in soft, green or hard woods. The curved blade is relatively easy to sharpen when required. Available in three finish diameters only: 3/8 in. (9.5 mm), 7/16 in. (11.1 mm) and 1/2 in. (12.7 mm).

Dowel Sizing Plate
With this dowel sizing plate you make your own correct sized dowels. Drive roughly sized stock through a hole of the hardened steel plate and on the other side appears the dowel with the desired diameter. The plate is hardened to 52 HRC. Quick and easy to use. We recommend to fix the plate on a piece of wood leaving enough space for the dowels to come through. Only for smooth dowels! You cannot make fluted dowels with this plate.

Veritas Dowel Former
This dowel former allows you to make dowels of any length as you need them. You simply drive an oversized piece of wood through the sharp-edged hole of the solid A2 tool steel insert to shear excess material from the dowels.
The 76 mm (3 inch) diameter mounting plate (which can be used over a 19 mm or 20 mm dog hole) has two screw holes for permanent mounting; the interchangeable inserts snap into it securely. You need at least one mounting plate and one insert in the size of the dowel you want to make.

Veritas Dowel Maker
The Veritas Dowel Maker lets you make perfectly sized dowel from 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) to 1 inch (25.4 mm) dia. in 1/16 inch increments, up to 4 feet (1219 mm) long (or longer in the larger diameters) from any wood species you wish. The process uses two blades (both highly wear-resistant A2 tool steel), one for roughing and the other for final sizing. You just rip square stock 1/8 inch (3 mm) oversize and drive it through the dowel maker using a square socket drive in an electric drill. Following simple instructions, you set the two blades for the size you want, make a short section of dowel and then adjust the finishing blade to bring the dowel to exact size. Then run what you need. The fine adjustment is required since woods of different densities have different fiber springback when cut. Notice: only in inch measurements, metric not available!

The range of blade adjustment lets you make dowel as much as 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) undersize (frequently an advantage when you want it slightly undersize for a sliding fit) so Veritas includes a 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) undersize guide bushing because the additional cost is minimal.
The body of the dowel maker incorporates micrometer adjustments in both blade-fixing mechanisms. Also included is a simple jig for precise replacement of blades when they have to be removed for sharpening. The body can be held in a vise, bolted to a bench, or anchored through a 3/4 inch (19.05 mm) dog hole using the optional dog assembly.
