FAMAG Forstner Bits, Extensions for Bits

When it comes to Forstner bits, we choose to stick with a manufacturer that we know well, and that we know makes all the tools that carry its name in house (no branded imports that could be of variable quality). The firm FAMAG in Remscheid, Germany, has a long history of making top quality tools, and has also shown itself to be remarkably innovative. One good example is the Bormax line of high-end Forstner bits that because of their design, resist the overheating that can plague other brands. Forstner bits are used wherever you need clean holes in a precise diameter, with no tear-out. All the bits sold here cut with a right-hand turn.

We offer Forstner bits in an unusually wide range of diameters, from 8 mm to 100 mm, often in graduations of only 0.5 mm. Please remember that the bits in the intermediate, half-millimeter, diameters are special production runs, and so are more expensive than the normal bits. Normally we have all the bits listed, even the intermediate sizes, in stock in our store, and can dispatch them immediately.

BORMAX Forstner-Bit made by FAMAG (Serie 1622)
This toothed Forstner-bit (Series 1622) enter cleanly into softwood, European hardwood, and plywood. The advantage to the traditional Forstner bit is less heat appearance and as a result a much better edge holding ability. You can use it freehand or in the drilling machine and in the drill press.

Recommended speed: 750 - 2500 min^-1

Carbide tipped Forstner Bit BORMAX3
The BORMAX3 made by Famag (Series 1663) is the first carbide tipped Forstner bit. You can use it freehand or in the drilling machine and in the drill press.

This bit cuts cleanly into softwood, all hardwood, and all kinds of plywood and chipboards. Even extreme hard tropical woods like Bongossi are no problem for this bit.

BORMAX Centre Drill Forstner Bit
New from FAMAG! The Bormax Centre Drill Forstner Bit, with a central tube in which to fix a normal bit as a drilling guide, permits one to precisely drill, free hand, large holes in situations where the hole must be drilled at an angle, for instance the holes to take spindles on a stair railing. The bit is designed to be used on soft woods, European hardwoods, particle board, and MDF.

The pilot bit is fixed into the main bit with an Allen wrench, and it can be exchanged for a shorter point, to allow one to make flat-bottomed holes in thinner materials where one does not want to drill through the piece, as with a normal Bormax Forstner bit. The hole to take the guide bits extends all the way through the Bormax bit's shaft to allow jammed or frozen bits to be pushed out using a special rod included with every kit.

Extension for BORMAX drill bits
If 57 mm cutting length of the Bormax is not enough, you can use these extensions for deeper holes. They are suitable too for all other drill bits with a shaft of 8 or 10 or 13 mm, if it is paid attention to the minimum cutting diameter of the drill bit. You need a 2.5 mm hexagonal bit to fit the extension. Please note there are different shaft sizes of "Bormax" and "Bormax 3 carbide tipped" forstner bits! All measurements in mm!
