Azebiki - to start Cuts in the Center of Panels
Mawashibiki - Keyhole Saw

The Azebiki's rounded blade enables you to make cuts into a surface that have both a blind beginning and a blind end, i.e. they do not reach the edge of the work. For example, if you have a drawer front to cut from a board with the grain matching the sides, you won't get very far with an electric saw because you have to use the drill to start the corners and the piece you then cut out will have been ruined as a drawer front. The Azebiki is the solution.

In restoration work , for example, the renovation of a chest of drawers, this little saw is exactly right for taking out portions of the old runners that need tidying up. The shortness of the blade is a real virtue. You can get it into corners that were impossible to reach with any previous saw.

To help you get a straight cut in the surface it is no problem to clamp a rule or bar to the workpiece. I even know people who use the azebiki very effectively as a grooving saw. In this case it has proved very useful to create a strip of wood with a sloping edge to obtain an exact guide.

Boatbuilders also swear by this saw because it lets them get at the most narrow and awkward of places. As one uses it, one discovers ever more of its versatility. You will be amazed at the uses you can put it to.

Keyhole saws are used to make narrow curves or to enlarge holes or give them the wished form which are made with a drill bit. Be carefully in using: As the blade is thin and narrow they are in danger of bending when used unproperly.
