Kobiki Nokogiri - handmade Timber Saw made in Japan
The following picture and instructions how to fit the handle comes from our customer Ludovic A., Taiwan, who kindly gave permission to publish it here. Many thanks!
Instructions how to attach the handle
The way I did it:
- The principle is to cut a narrow through mortise in the handle.
- The handle should be attached at about 4-5 cm from the tang's tip of the saw, and about 3 cm should be kept free at the top of the handle to avoid splitting.
- Mark the center of the width of the handle on both sides, on a length that corresponds to the width of the saw's tang (note that the tang is tapered).
- Drill 2mm holes along the marking, being carefull to drill straight from one side to the other.
- Then I used a keyhole saw to finish cutting the mortise.
- The difficult part was to be able to insert the keyhole saw's blade in the holes.
- Test for the fit of the tang - mine is very tight and does not move at all.
